In mid-2025, I did the Frontend implementation of the Toolbar AI Chatbot, the first official chatbot UI for Drupal's AI Core module. The interface has become the default Admin AI Chatbot and now ships by default with Drupal CMS AI.
My role: Frontend implementation, UI/UX, and ongoing maintenance.
The Chat itself is created using an open-source component called Deep Chat. Customised heavily to fit the UI requirements, and functionality of a Chatbot capable of performing more tasks than just replying to a users query. Such as:
- Tool Calling
- Custom greeting messages
- Custom styling configuration
- Showing agent activity
- History
